Nigerian passport holders have access to several Caribbean destinations through visa-free entry or simplified pre-travel arrangements, with permitted stays varying by country.

Nigerian passport holders seeking to travel to the Caribbean in 2026 have several destinations where they can enter without obtaining a conventional visa from an embassy before departure.

Among the destinations currently listed under visa-free or simplified entry arrangements are Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. However, the four countries do not operate identical entry systems: while Barbados, Dominica and Haiti offer visa-free access under their applicable rules, Saint Kitts and Nevis requires an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before travel.

Travellers should also distinguish between being visa-free and being exempt from all immigration requirements. Passport validity, return tickets, accommodation details, proof of funds and other entry conditions may still apply.

1. Barbados — Up to Six Months

Nigerian citizens can travel to Barbados without a visa for eligible short-term visits.

The Barbados Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ published visa information specifically lists Nigeria among countries whose nationals do not require a visa to enter Barbados. It states that Nigerian nationals travelling for tourism may remain in the country for a maximum of six months.

Being visa-exempt does not automatically guarantee admission. Travellers must still satisfy Barbados’ immigration requirements on arrival.

The Barbados government advises visitors to ensure that their passports remain valid for the duration of their stay and notes that visa requirements can depend on the purpose of travel.

2. Dominica — Up to Six Months

Nigerian passport holders can also visit the Commonwealth of Dominica without a visa for visits of up to six months under the country’s rules for Commonwealth citizens.

Dominica’s government states that citizens of Commonwealth member states do not require a visa when entering for a period not exceeding six months. Nigeria is a member of the Commonwealth and therefore falls within this category.

Travellers should carry a valid passport and meet the country’s entry requirements. Dominica lists a valid return ticket, sufficient funds for the intended stay and a local address among its requirements for visitors.

3. Haiti — Up to 90 Days

Haiti is another Caribbean destination listed as offering Nigerian passport holders visa-free access for short visits.

Current 2026 travel information lists Nigerian citizens as eligible to enter Haiti without a conventional visa for up to 90 days.

Travellers should, however, verify the latest requirements before booking their flights because immigration conditions can change.

Visa-free status also does not mean that admission is automatic. Travellers may be required to demonstrate the purpose of their visit and satisfy other border-entry conditions.

4. Saint Kitts and Nevis — eTA Required

Saint Kitts and Nevis uses a different system from the three destinations above.

Nigerian travellers are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before travelling to the country. The government introduced the digital travel authorisation system in May 2025 and requires visitors to have an approved eTA before departure and upon arrival.

The eTA is a pre-travel authorisation rather than a conventional visa application. The government says applications can be submitted up to 90 days before travel, while the authorisation is valid for 90 days or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

Current Nigerian passport information lists Saint Kitts and Nevis among destinations accessible to Nigerians through an eTA arrangement, with a stay of up to 90 days under the applicable conditions.

Important Travel Note for Nigerians

Although these four destinations offer visa-free or simplified entry arrangements, travellers should not assume that no documentation is required.

Before purchasing a ticket, Nigerian travellers should confirm:

  • Passport validity requirements
  • Maximum permitted stay
  • Return or onward ticket requirements
  • Accommodation information
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Health or vaccination requirements where applicable
  • Any electronic registration or travel authorisation
  • Whether the trip is for tourism, business, study or another purpose

Visa and immigration rules can change without notice. Barbados, for example, has specifically warned travellers against relying on unofficial information about its immigration policies and advised visitors to use official government sources.

For 2026, the key distinction is that Barbados and Dominica permit eligible Nigerian visitors to enter visa-free for up to six months, Haiti permits visa-free visits of up to 90 days, while Saint Kitts and Nevis requires an eTA before departure.
