Sixty-five years after raising our green and white flag, Nigeria still stands; not because the road has been smooth, but because her people are unbreakable.
We cannot deny the harsh reality: hunger still grips too many families, children still cry from empty stomachs, and mothers still pray over half-filled pots. Our streets echo with both laughter and lament, as dreams wrestle with survival.
Yet, despite the shadows of scarcity, and the loud silence of pain and hopelessness: “we are our own light at the tunnel’s end.”
For every family that struggles, there is a neighbor who shares. For every young person denied opportunity, there is another who creates opportunity from nothing. For every system that fails, Nigerians rise to rebuild with bare hands and burning faith.
Independence, therefore, is not just the memory of a flag raised in 1960. It is the daily courage of a people who refuse to be broken. It is the resilience that turns hunger into hustle, and despair into determination.
Nigeria at 65 is a reminder that we are more than our struggles. We are a people united not only in diversity but in defiance of defeat. We are the hands that will plant the seed, the voices that will demand better, and the light that will guide ourselves to a tomorrow we deserve.
So, let the world know this: “we are not waiting for light at the tunnel’s end, we are becoming the light, burning brighter with every hardship overcome.”
