The Anambra State Government has officially rejected the chieftaincy title conferred on Bianca Ojukwu, widow of late diplomat and nationalist Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. The decision follows a review by the State’s Traditional Rulers Council and government authorities, who determined that proper protocol and statutory processes for the conferment of traditional titles were not followed in the ceremony that took place.
Officials explained that while traditional titles carry significant cultural importance and honour, they must be processed through established channels and approved by the relevant council before being recognised by the state government. In this case, the government maintained that those procedures were not adhered to, prompting the formal rejection.
