Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has distanced himself from growing speculation linking him to a possible vice-presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that such decisions are solely within the discretion of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dogara described the reports as premature and misleading, noting that discussions around running mates remain speculative at this stage. He emphasized that the choice of a vice-presidential candidate is not a matter of personal ambition or public debate but a constitutional and strategic decision to be made by the party’s presidential flag bearer.

According to him, President Tinubu, as leader of the ruling party and incumbent head of government, holds the authority to determine who best complements his leadership vision and electoral strategy. Dogara urged political observers and the media to avoid unnecessary distractions that could overheat the political space.

The former Speaker also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the administration’s policies and strengthening democratic governance, rather than engaging in early succession politics.

As permutations for 2027 gradually begin to surface, Dogara’s comments serve as a reminder that official political alignments remain far from settled, with key decisions still firmly in the hands of party leadership.
