Abuja is gearing up for an unforgettable end-of-year celebration as the city prepares to host the maiden edition of the Abuja Groovy December (AGD), a 16-day tourism and cultural extravaganza running from December 15 to 31.

Emerging Abuja

Organised by Emerging Abuja, the festival aims to reposition the Federal Capital Territory as a prime holiday destination, drawing visitors from across Nigeria and the diaspora. More than 35 events are lined up, promising a vibrant mix of entertainment, sports, culture, and lifestyle experiences.

Over 70 percent of the activities will take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, with highlights including music concerts, cultural exhibitions, fashion shows, adventure sports, cooking competitions, motor racing, kayaking, football, chess, and snooker tournaments. State-level contests will also feature, with trophies and cash prizes up for grabs.

Festival organisers say AGD will complement rather than compete with other major Nigerian holiday events, adding Abuja’s unique flair to the December tourism calendar. The initiative will also spotlight lesser-known attractions in the FCT, boosting both tourism and local businesses.

Adding star power to the celebration, former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has been unveiled as the festival’s brand ambassador. With its rich programme, AGD is set to deliver two weeks of non-stop excitement, showcasing Abuja as a city that blends culture, creativity, and adventure in a way visitors will not forget
