On Tuesday, former Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume publicly apologized to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for remarks made during a live television interview that criticized President Bola Tinubu. The apology comes a month after Ndume was ousted from his position following comments on Arise TV, where he suggested that Tinubu was disconnected from the hardships faced by Nigerians.
Senator Tahir Monguno of Borno North replaced Ndume, following directives from APC’s National Chairman, Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola.
After a two-hour closed-door meeting with the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja, Ndume expressed regret for not consulting the party before making his public comments. He maintained that his statements were made out of patriotism and should have been handled internally within the party.
Addressing concerns about his membership status, Ndume denied any expulsion and reaffirmed his dedication to the party. He also dismissed the need for a direct apology to President Tinubu or the Senate, clarifying that his comments were not intended as an insult.

APC National Chairman Ganduje confirmed Ndume’s apology and mentioned that the party would request the Senate leadership to reconsider Ndume’s removal as Chief Whip. Ganduje emphasized that the issue was resolved within the party, highlighting the APC’s commitment to unity and family values.
