The Lagos State Government has announced that it has achieved 89 per cent immunisation coverage, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing public health and disease-prevention efforts.
Health authorities attributed the progress to intensified community outreach, improved primary healthcare delivery, and increased public awareness campaigns across urban and hard-to-reach areas. The immunisation drive targets children and vulnerable populations, aiming to reduce the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Health noted that collaboration with local governments, health workers, and community leaders played a critical role in boosting participation and trust in vaccination programmes.
Despite the success, the state government acknowledged that more work remains to reach full coverage. Residents were encouraged to continue presenting eligible children for routine immunisation, stressing that herd immunity is only achievable when participation is widespread.
Public health experts have praised the development as a positive step toward strengthening healthcare outcomes in Nigeria’s most populous state, particularly amid ongoing concerns about preventable childhood illnesses.
