Breaking News: Angry Workers Chase Wike’s Motorcade, Minister Escapes via Back Gate at FCTA Secretariat

Nyesom Wike

Pandemonium erupted at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat in Abuja on Monday as visibly aggrieved workers confronted the convoy of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, forcing a dramatic security response.

According to eyewitness accounts, the workers—angered by unresolved welfare and labour-related issues—stormed the secretariat premises, chanting and attempting to block the minister’s motorcade. What began as a protest quickly escalated into a tense standoff, compelling security operatives to act swiftly.

As the situation intensified, Wike’s convoy was reportedly chased by the protesting workers, prompting security personnel to reroute the minister. He was eventually whisked out of the premises through a rear gate of the FCTA Secretariat to prevent physical confrontation and a possible breakdown of order.

The secretariat was momentarily thrown into disarray as security tightened access points and dispersed the crowd. While no casualties were reported, the incident exposed deep-seated frustrations among workers and highlighted rising labour tensions within the nation’s capital.

As of press time, the FCTA has yet to issue an official statement addressing the protest or the workers’ demands. However, the episode sends a strong signal that discontent among public sector workers is reaching a boiling point, with pressure mounting on authorities to engage, negotiate, and restore calm.
