“I Regretted Relocating to the U.S.” — Comedian Teju Babyface Shares Emotional Experience Abroad

Popular Nigerian comedian, actor, and television host, Teju Oyelakin, widely known as Teju Babyface, has opened up about his relocation to the United States, revealing that he once deeply regretted the move.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the entertainer shared his personal reflections on how the excitement of moving abroad often blinds people to the real challenges of life overseas.

“The issue with life is that we almost suffer from the ‘grass is greener on the other side syndrome,’” Teju said. “When we’re standing in one position in life and looking at another from afar, it looks greener and more appealing. The problem is that we don’t see the challenges that exist on that side from where we are standing.”

Teju Babyface disclosed that the harsh realities of living in America, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, made him question his decision to relocate.

“America has its own unique challenges that you will go through — tough challenges. Then when you add COVID on top of that, ah! For about three years, I was convinced that I had made the biggest mistake of my life. That I had shot myself in the foot,” he revealed.

The entertainer emphasized that relocation should never be viewed as a quick escape or guaranteed path to success. He urged Nigerians and others considering migration to carefully assess their options and exercise patience before taking such a major life decision.

“It’s important to understand that no place is without its own struggles. Before you make that move, think deeply and plan wisely,” he advised.

Teju Babyface, known for his witty humor and thought-provoking talk show The Teju Babyface Show, continues to inspire audiences with his honesty, resilience, and real-life lessons on personal growth and perspective.
