My beloved people of Imo State and cherished citizens of Nigeria,
On this radiant October 1st, as we commemorate 65 years of Nigeria’s sovereignty, I stand with you in profound gratitude and resolute hope.
From the fertile lands of Imo, where our Igbo spirit thrives in resilience and community, to every corner of this great nation—from the savannahs of the North to the coasts of the South—we celebrate the audacity of our forebears who, in 1960, birthed a nation free from colonial shackles. Their vision was a Nigeria united in diversity, prosperous in opportunity, and steadfast in justice. Today, we honor their legacy by recommitting to that sacred dream.
Independence is more than a milestone; it is a clarion call to uphold the dignity of every Nigerian. As a son of Imo, rooted in the values of integrity and service, I have witnessed the strength of our people—farmers, traders, students, and professionals—who rise daily to build a better tomorrow despite daunting challenges. Yet, we cannot ignore the shadows that test our resolve: governance that strays from transparency, public projects inflated beyond reason, and the stifling of voices that seek accountability. In Imo, our heartland, we have seen resources meant for progress diverted, and the rights of the common man trampled by impunity. These are not mere grievances; they are betrayals of the freedom we celebrate today.
But let us not falter. The spirit of Nigeria is forged in perseverance. As a people, we must demand leadership that mirrors our collective aspirations—governance that invests in our youth, revitalizes our hospitals, and ensures every road serves the people, not the privileged. We must champion a nation where the rule of law, as enshrined in our Constitution, protects every citizen’s dignity, liberty, and right to speak truth without fear. Our diversity—over 250 ethnic nations woven into one—is our strength, but only if we embrace true federalism that empowers every region to thrive.
To my kinsmen in Imo State: Let us lead by example, fostering a state where accountability reigns, where investments create jobs, and where every child’s dream finds wings. To all Nigerians: Let us reclaim our narrative, wielding the ballot as our sword and unity as our shield to build a nation where no one is oppressed, no potential is wasted, and no voice is silenced.
As we mark this 65th Independence Day, let us draw strength from our shared resolve to build a Nigeria where justice, prosperity, and peace prevail. With faith in the Almighty and courage in our hearts, let us forge a future that honors our past and inspires our children’s dreams.
