The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Architect Sunday Echono, is set to deliver the 34th Convocation Lecture of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, on Friday, January 31, 2025.
The highly anticipated lecture, titled “TETFUND and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, The Treasures, and The Future,” will take place at the OGD Hall of the university’s Main Campus in Ago-Iwoye. The event is expected to attract notable participants from academia and beyond.
The Vice Chancellor of OOU, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, will serve as the chief host, while the Visitor to the University and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Olabisi Onabanjo University, a state-owned institution in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, was originally founded on July 7, 1982, as Ogun State University (OSU). It was later renamed on May 29, 2001, in honor of Chief (Dr.) Olabisi Onabanjo, whose visionary leadership as the then civilian governor of Ogun State led to the establishment of the university.
Architect Sunday Echono, the convocation lecturer, is a distinguished Nigerian diplomat and architect with a remarkable career spanning multiple sectors. He has been serving as the ninth Executive Secretary of TETFUND since 2022. Prior to his current role, he held various esteemed positions, including serving as the Secretary of the Admissions Committee of the Nigerian Institute of Architects and the 28th President of the Institute from 2019 to 2021. His appointment as the substantive 9th Executive Secretary of TETFUND on March 18, 2022, followed a nomination by the TETFUND Board earlier that year.
Echono, a former permanent secretary in several federal ministries, has earned numerous honors and recognition from governmental and non-governmental organizations both within Nigeria and internationally. His lecture at the convocation is expected to shed light on the transformative impact of TETFUND on Nigeria’s educational sector and provide insights into its future direction.
