The leader of Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu has donated a town hall to his community’s Oganiru age grade in Igugu, Udenu local government area of Enugu state.

Making the presentation, Hon. Ezeugwu said that he had to build a new town hall for the age grade after the former one was demolished to make way for an access road within the Igugu community that was constructed by the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi administration.

He said that the demolished town hall was constructed when the community was not futuristic and that a time will come when there would be a tarred road. “So the hall then was a village thing, but when the tarred road came, it needed to give way and that was a hall constructed when we were still very vibrant, but the hall had to go down,” Ezeugwu narrated.

He disclosed that before the newly constructed town hall, the age grade used to hold its meetings in his house after the old hall was demolished, “and you cannot be trying to solve a problem, you create another problem. So when that hall gave way, it became important that I put up a new one so that we have a place for ourselves.

“It is said that development begets development; the old hall gave way for a modern hall because His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi developed our place. So development begets development, without that road construction, this hall wouldn’t have been in place.

“Age grade drives development at the local level, more so if they are very highly committed to the welfare of their people and that’s why all hands have to be on deck to drive the process of development,” Ezeugwu said.

Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Ubosi, who commissioned the hall, said it was magnanimous of Ezeugwu to give a brand new town hall to his age grade despite not being directly responsible for the demolition of the old town hall.

Ubosi urged the age grade to henceforth become more responsible to the community, having received equal measure from one of their members.

The Speaker said he had worked in good partnership with Ezeugwu as the leader of the House of Assembly for eight years, noting that in Ezeugwu he found a diligent legislator who has through his wisdom been able to create synergy between the executive and the legislative arms of the Enugu state government, and also among members of the Assembly for eight years.

“Any day Ezeugwu throws in the towel as leader of the house, I’ll equally resign as the speaker of Enugu state House of assembly, and it’s the same with Governor Ugwuanyi. The two have been good in my position as speaker; we have mutual understanding, love and maturity which has made it possible for good governance to thrive in Enugu state,” Ubosi said.

The chairman of the Oganiru age grade, stated that Ezeugwu had always given them quality representation, not only to the age grade or the Igugu community, but also to the entire Udenu state constituency that he represents.
