The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that officers fired shots at protesters during an anti-demolition demonstration in Lagos.
According to the Nigeria Police Force, the protest, which erupted over the demolition of properties, was closely monitored to prevent a breakdown of law and order. The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State maintained that no live ammunition was discharged at any point during the crowd control operation.
Police authorities stated that officers were deployed strictly to maintain peace and protect lives and property, adding that standard crowd-management procedures were followed. They described claims of gunfire as false and capable of inciting unnecessary panic among residents.
The command also appealed to members of the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports, especially during sensitive situations involving public demonstrations. Residents were urged to channel grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
The clarification comes amid heightened public scrutiny of security agencies’ conduct during protests, as citizens continue to demand accountability and transparency in law-enforcement operations across Lagos State.
