The importance of Sleep to the body can not be overemphasized. This is because sleep is vital to both the health and the general well-being of every human being. It helps to calm down and reenergize the body. According to Healthline, an adult is recommended to get a minimum of about 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Therefore, not getting enough hours of sleep can cause both physical and mental exhaustion.

1. Higher Stress Level

One of the signs that you are not getting the right amount of sleep is the increase in stress levels. Studies show that lack of sleep leads to the release of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is a stress hormone that is released in the body when there is too much stress in the body.

2. Daytime sleepiness

The second sign that shows that you don’t have enough sleep is feeling daytime sleepiness. People who are low in sleep are always low on energy even when they eat the proper nutrition.  Thus, getting quality sleep is a prerequisite for energy during the day.

3. Low Emotional State

The third sign that you need enough sleep is that you have a low emotional state. This means that you are slow in making decisions and get easily irritable. Therefore, when you feel such a sign it just signifies that you need to get enough sleep.

The fourth sign that you are not getting enough sleep is lower immunity. When you fall sick more often, then it might just be a sign that you need more rest. Lower immunity can be a result of poor sleeping habits. This is because during sleep your body produces disease-fighting hormones. As such not getting quality sleep may mean that these hormones are not produced in large quantities.
