The Headies, one of Nigeria’s highly anticipated music award shows, has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 2, 2022, in Atlanta, United States of America.
Ayo Animashaun, the show’s creator revealed this during The Headies Big Announcement event, which aired via HipTV on Tuesday.
The Headies was established in 2006 to celebrate artistes’ outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
It will be televised on notable television stations and major streaming platforms including CNN and BBC1.
The award show, which used to hold in Lagos, will for the first time, take place outside Nigeria, at COBB Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA.
Speaking on their partnership with Headies, Mr Steve from the United State consulate said that it is the embassy’s pleasure to support the initiative as Nigeria is evidently the entertainment hub in Africa. He also noted that the award ceremony will create job opportunities for Americans.
“We are very proud to see Nigeria and its relationship with the United States. This is the year for Nigeria with arts and cultures, music, film and even sports. Three Grammy winners in Nigeria. I’m sure it’s going to attract American talents as well.
“All these collaborations are happening. Netflix is here, Amazon is here, the NBA is in Nigeria so we are very proud to see all of these.
“Our deputy assistant Secretary who just visited Nigeria said this industry is going to create job end she referred to it as the new oil for Nigeria because all of you in this room knows there is no shortage of creativity in Nigeria,” said Steve.
The organizer of the award further revealed that the winner of the next rated award category will go home with a brand new 2022 Bentley.
